I'm just not talented at languages

The short answer

Talent matters less than hours, method and whether you enjoy it. People who look "gifted" usually have a routine they like and many hours of listening behind them. If school languages felt hopeless, that says more about grammar drills and tests than about you.

What the "gifted" learners actually do

“It was a sport for me. It was a challenge. It was a computer game.”Languy · from a recorded lesson

Why school made you feel bad at it

Classes often start with grammar tables, test you on writing, and give you a few minutes a week of real listening. That is the hardest way in. Starting from listening to things you like is a different sport.

Try this for a week

Five real sentences a day with audio and a translation, from a show or song you like. Review them. At the end of the week, listen to the scene again. Notice how much you catch.

“Mistakes are just XP points. That's all they are. You're not failing. You are earning.”Languy · from a recorded lesson

Questions people also ask

Is there such a thing as a language talent?

Some people do pick up sounds faster. But for most learners, hours and method decide far more than any natural gift.

I failed languages at school. Can I still learn one?

Yes. School methods are not the only way, and many adults who struggled in class learn well from listening and real content.
